Trollsteinen Hike

An intriguingly alien vista.

Road Trip: Day 9

The "Karl og Kerling" rock formations in Jokulsargljufur Canyon. Note the profuse and random columnar basalt.

Day 3

I decided to go a short distance up F26, just until the first water crossing - my rental car was not all that high and I promised myself I wouldn't cross flowing water while solo. Well. I went so far north that I finally had to make the call to turn around. Never did find a water crossing, even though they were labeled on my map. This bred the false confidence in said map that got me in trouble on the north part of Sprengisandur later on...

Day 14

The north part of Sprengisandur. The infrared images all originally have this same orange tint, which I do away with by desaturating them in post-processing. This one I amplified to enhance the impression it gives of a picture from a Martian lander.

Day 14

The north part of Sprengisandur.

Day 14

The north part of Sprengisandur.

Day 12

Alien landscapes between Egilsstaðir and Jökulsárgljúfur. The color is as it appears from the camera. I normally convert them to monochrome, but this one I kept the original color because of the vaguely Martian look of it.
