This is a National Park on the Columbia River Gorge, and we are incredibly happy that firefighters just saved it and the lodge from the Eagle Creek Fire.

Fred Fouarge, HelenaPF, Gary Benson (grbenson3 on flickr), and 38 other people have particularly liked this photo

Oh yes, at 620 ft tall (the tallest waterfall in Oregon), it would really do one's bum in!

Thanks for your kind comment.

It is wonderful indeed. Usually you see this photographed with the bridge, but I liked this vantage point of just the nature. Glad you enjoy it as well! Thanks.

It is well worth the trip. The whole Columbia River Gorge is amazing (though currently has fires, so you might want to wait a little bit :( Thanks.

Hi Andy, I added the location in the description now. It's in the Columbia River Gorge in northwestern United States. It is Multnomah Falls National Park. We are very lucky to live right next to the Gorge - and luckier still that firefighters just saved it from burning by standing in a ring around the falls and the lodge for days to stave off the fire. The fire rages on, but the Falls are saved!

Excellent shot of these wonderful falls. Heard that the area was threatened with fire, but nice to hear that some of it is safe.

raingirl club has replied to RHH
thank you, Ron. the lodge is safe, but i am not sure hiw the rest has fared. there aren't a lot of detailed reports as people aren't allowed in right now. there's a lot of worry about trees that didn't burn up having damaged roots so they might fall soon. i thought the trees around the falls were saved, but now it is unclear. hopefully the rain expected this weekend will basically put an end to the fire and assesment of damage and restoration can begin.

A wonderful capture, Laura; I am so happy to hear that the fire didn't impact this beautiful place!

raingirl club has replied to Valfal
Thanks! It will remain to be seen how much the trees are effected here. Hopefully their roots aren't damaged with the ground cover burning away. We won't have full reports until later this month. But the scene probably won't change drastically in this one place - and should come back fairly quickly.

Wonderful shot Laura! I was just there in May and amazingly it looks untouched by the fire. Most of the destruction can be seen on the upper plateau above the many waterfalls. I noticed many large burned tree trunks swirling in the pool below the lower falls.

Thank you.
You managed to find a parking spot! Well, maybe May is easier than in summer.
It does have the look of being untouched by fire, but that is partly because they have done a lot of cleanup. But it really was amazing that the firefighters kept this area as good as they did.
