Iceland :o)

This picture is taken at the same location as this and this - it takes me 15 minutes to drive to this location which is VERY dark after the sun sets..... This picture I did not like very much when I took it BUT after the lousy weather we have had here for a few days now, this snow and calmness look great ;o)

It's funny, but while most of my friends dream of going to Mexico, Hawaii, or Cuba, I want to see places like Iceland, Norway, and far flung Russia.
I look at your photos, and those of other Icelandic photographers, and am struck by the beauty of your country.
I must visit.

Ragnheidurpro replies:
All those countries you talk about ARE interesting... The thing about Iceland is that it is so small that you can see so much of it in such a "short" time... We have glaciers, waterfalls, cliffs, rivers, and and and.... well, for turists it is a wonderful country to visit so DO come :o)

David de Groot replies:
That's a really good point actually. For instance, places like Australia, the main attractions are literally thousands of kilometres apart, you just can't fit it all in on a short holiday (I live here and still have masses of places to explore).

Ragnheidurpro replies:
I do believe you, Australia is HUGE :o)

Good point! I feel the same. My dream is Siberia and one day Iceland certainly too. I hope those motocross riders won't manage to destroy it before I come ;)

Ragnheidurpro replies:
No, we have organised motorcross "trails" on 6 or 7 places around our country and people here (usually) take care of the country... So, I think we don´t have to worry to much about that atleast :o)

Jan Popelka replies:
Yes, I realize, that in the Czech Republic (even in comparison with our close neighbours in Europe) many people do not esteem/respect anything. It is always bad to generalize, but I can tell the difference. Beginning with such subtle things like street decorations and ending with the nature and environment we all live in.

Simply beautiful and I agree with John that it would be very interesting to visit your country while on the other hand I wouldn't have anything against going to Cuba either :)

It´s a dream to live in Iceland. I really love yur landscape

Ragnheidurpro replies:
It is beautiful BUT it is not perfect (maybe close to it but.... ;o) - because of the shifts in weather and dark winters, people here do not have much opportunities to spend much time outside during a big part of the year.... BUT if you put warm clothes on and be prepared it is nice :o)
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
dini replies:
no land is perfect ;)
I like when it´s cold outside (hate the summer ;)
And the darkness and loneliness is wonderful.
For me there is no better land to study and to do research

Ragnheidurpro replies:
I kinda like it too when it´s cold outside and dark :o) You just put on some warm clothes when yr outside and inside you can have it cosy and nice :o) :o)

maybe the summer is better to go than the winter (or fall) because of the darkness - I have such wonderful memories of the island of Grimsey which I visited once in early June - rarely breathed purer air than there (but I fully recommend all of Iceland)

Ragnheidurpro replies:
Grímsey is so nice :o) Glad you liked it...Well, my favorite seasons here are the autumn and spring BUT of course the summer here is great. You never know though about the weather, you can always expect ANYTHING :o)

This pic is a blast, I mean it looks like there's a blast of light at the horizon.

I wonder if there's a country out there that combines Iceland's beautiful vistas and light with, say, Cuban temperatures :-)
