Life changing.....

Three years and four months back this heart-braking young beautiful boy changed our lives :o)

A few months ago we found out he is on the Autism spectrum.... Well, for weeks I did not sleep or eat!! I tried to convince the doctors they were wrong by calling them, showing them my son and EVERY other possible thing I could think of!!

Finally I got to terms with it... I read 16 books about Autism and how to deal with "it" - read everything I possible could find on the internet.....

Now - after this time has passed I can smile when I think back... (have called the doctors and apologized for this strange behavior which obviously they are used to :)

I finally saw Alexander again as "he is" - a perfect little boy that needs different things then his brothers... BUT OMG how much his small steps makes us happy...!

We did change many things in his/our lives - what we eat, how we look at things, how we talk to him....... hm... almost everything.... but things are getting back to normal, except what we eat...

Conclusion..... Difficult times make you look at life from a different "angle" and make you learn to appreciate things that maybe you took as granted before....

Alexander has taught me soooo many things - and I absolutely love him with all of my heart... to me this little guy is PERFECT...!

(his autism makes it hard for him to be around new things and people... he does not speak as he should but slowly he is learning. He does not accept people until he is very used to them BUT... he understands far more then he should, draws far better then he should for his age... knows all the letters AND makes us smile all the time because of his GREAT sense of humor!!!))

Wow Ragga, thanks for sharing this. I wish you all the best as you come to terms with this. At least you have some idea of how to go forward now. He is a handsome little guy!

Thank you so much for those beautiful words Bogaugon... It really was difficult coming to terms with that he is not like "other" children but then again... he has NEVER had a fever in his life, never gotten sick or any of the stuff other kids have to deal with all the tim (7 - 9 - 13) and then again if you think like Pollyanna - it could be so much worse... I absolutely do appreciate him for what he is and believe me he is a little charm :o)

Oh yes - he is so good to me!! Amongst the first words he said were I love you :o) His eyes do help him a lot because I don´t believe he has yet met someone who can resist the way he looks at people (although he doesn´t look at strangers or people he doesn´t know :o)

Autism has million faces (or more) - Alexander is not on the "highest" end and I believe he will get through this (if it is possible to say it like that :o).... He has brilliant trainers which are helping him so much and then changing what he ate helped a lot also... I absolutely am doing my best and will continue to do so :o)

Ragnheidurpro replies:
Thanks Sabou.
He is not in his own world "Thank God" - it is not that serious with Alexander. His autism symptoms are being VERY shy, stubborn and not talking..! But he does communicate with all the people he loves and he is getting so much better in his "shy-ness" - every day he is a little better and even these days he is looking some strangers straight in their eyes!!!
What he eats really makes difference which made me go and read about "food" a lot... What is strange to me is that there is so much that we eat that is really unhealthy for us! (and I am not talking about the obvious things)....

Everyday I see and talk to a little boy like yours. My only piece of advice: I´m sure you´re going to give him a lot of love and affection. But try not to pamper him by alowing him to do whatever he wants to, flatering him too much. Because a spoiled child is not happy in he end.
He is very smart. and clever. One can see it in his eyes, They are really amazing, quite often sayng very sharp and intelligent remarks and opinions.
it´s easy to tell that you´re a very sensitive and creative person. So there´s no doubt that you will be a fantastic mother to Alexander.
I´ve got a friend in Ipernity, named Ester. She´s from Iceland too. And I call her "mamma Ester". She really cares.
Congratulations for having a son like your Alex.

Believe you me... he does not get to much of anything :o) At first that was maybe the case because we did not quite understand his behavior - but after learning about autism that changed :o)
He is very clever and in his eyes you can see "visdom" (really)....!
Thank you so much Typo - really appreciated!!

Have a nice weekend, Alexander, Ragnheidur and family!!
I asked an English friend of mine how to explain clearer what I wrote yesterday. He told me : "Not to make lower demands of him". All that I know is that parents that have children on the Autism spectrum usually show more love and care than the others. Enjoy your winter!
