Yes, that's true, Andy! But I guess, while she carved one of this vegetable (duration about 2 hours) a multiple of other food in the close environment had been wasted too. :)
I've seen that often in Thailand before. They do it sometimes on markets to attract their displays.

Eva, ich glaube, die sind auch nicht mehr zum Essen gedacht. Nachdem die Gemüse eine Weile so präsentiert geworden sind, sind sie zu schlaff, um noch gegessen werden zu können.

Eva, ich denke, sie weiss das sehr genau. Sie macht das vermutlich schon eine ganze Weile. So etwas kann man nicht von heute auf morgen :-)

Eva, naja, in Asien sieht man das häufig auf Märkten, um die Auslage attraktiver zu machen.
Und zum Teil ev. auch aus Langeweile. Wenn man da den ganzen Tag hinter dem Gemüsestand herumsitzen und auf Kundschaft warten muss, kommt man vielleicht auf solche Ideen :-)

Ja, Christa, in Thailand sieht man die öfters auf Märkten, zum Zeitvertreib und natürlich auch um den Marktstand zu attraktivieren.

WOW! Amazing skill! I am guessing that everything is brushed with lemon juice while carving so it doesn't turn brown. Great capture, poly!

I didn't recognize that, but yes, it would be a good idea.
As I said above one can see such carvings a lot on Asian markets. They do it to make their market stall more attractive and also to spend the waiting time a little more useful. In Europa older ladies use to knit instead :)
