Having only seen one of their Austerity saddle tanks in action, I considered the highlight of a visit a couple of years ago was the coaching stock - beautifully turned out.

Polyrus has replied to Phil Sutters
Not only do I agree with you about the coaching stock, I was very impressed with all that I saw on what has to be the cleanest heritage railway centre I have visited.

This was the style for 99% of our carriages in the 19th century. Now they are only found working at our preserved railway centres.

HFF to you too, Gudrun.

I thought we'd finished with Austerity and could go back to a national rail service, not to mention scrapping HSR. These are the kinds of trains we need.
Polyrus has replied to Steve Bucknell
Thanks Steve, but travelling on our national railways is not meant to be an enjoyable experience!
Surely that's why they were denationalised?

Awaiting the passengers I guess. Reminds me of the old suburban trains here. HFF, Neil.

Polyrus has replied to tiabunna
Slam-door suburban trains were still common here as we entered the new millennium and a few were still running in rural areas as late as 2010. But this type are really ancient 3rd Class coaches.

Like the colour contrast. Did you travel all 5 miles of it end to end, short yes but very scenic. HFF! :)

It was a long way to go and not do the fully monty, so yes I went to both ends.

No doubt here about who opens and closes the door - definitely not the driver!!

I really like the way you've composed this shot Neil and the train looks rather lovely in the sunshine. I especially like the wooden trim on the doors. Nice work.

HFF to you............and enjoy your weekend..!!
Polyrus has replied to Keith Burton
Whilst it is run by volunteers there will never be a union involvement here either!
This shot composed itself. For some unknown reason they were having a half day. The last train had run and all the doors were opened so as to sweep out all the compartments and the scene was begging to be photographed.
HFF to you, Keith and all the best for the weekend!

Excellent capture; Haven Street is great to visit, did you also visit the interesting newer Railway Museum building out through the shop, that opened 2015?
Polyrus has replied to Roger Dodger
Thank you, Roger.
If that is the long building which has two lines of locos and rolling stock. yes. If not then I do not believe so.
I took many photos at Haven Street and I'm glad I was not still using analogue 35mm, or I would have run out of film. My main reason for being there was to see 41298 which I had not seen since 1969 at Longmoor.
