Núpsstaður church

Taken at the old farm of Núpsstaður on the southern coast... a really beautiful place tucked in between the sands and the glaciers :o)

This old church is beautiful in the summer when all the grass on the roof is green and dotted with yellow buttercups :o)

Original size for details of grass, timber and stones :o)

I wonder how big the congregation was back then? What a photogenic church, I doubt there are many much smaller than this. You're right - at orginial size this is a marvellous shot!! :-)) I keep being drawn to the horizon on the right. What a low, flat beach. At least I guess it is. Is it very tidal there? The sea seems miles away...

Pixiepro replies:
LOL, yes this is the typical old country church here in Iceland. I should have gone in and photographed the inside of it... I'll do it next time ;o)

You're right about the low, flat beach. This is the southern part of Iceland and the black sands are dominant and expansive there... and those tides have claimed the lives of unwary people more than once...

Oh, and I just found out (while googling) that Núpsstaður is on the World Heritage list! whc.unesco.org/en/tentativelists/1605 :o)

Flott mynd :o) Virðast vera margar svona litlar kirkjur út um allt. Greinilega ekki vera fyrir mjög stórt fólk... eða fjölmenni :o)

Pixiepro replies:
Takk takk Oddur, já ég held að fólk hafi verið eitthvað minna hérna í gamla daga en núna... ég hefði passað mjög vel inn þarna :D
