Last snow

... before Christmas. They are predicting rain on Monday... and over the holidays.

This is taken on the walk path behind my house :o) I live in a lava field ;o)

Original size for a more snowy feeling :o)

Great photo!! I like the way the light ahead is "round the corner" somehow! And what marvellous snow!! A shame it might not last until Thursday. Down here it has been unusually warm today - but wet!

As for living in a lava field - I find that oddly romantic I now imagine you live in a little wooden hut right in the centre of this deserted patch of rough ground.
Posted 12 months ago. ( permalink )
Pixiepro replies:
Hehe, thanks Nigel... and sorry to break your romantic bubble, but it's not quite a little wooden hut in a deserted field! This is what I see if I turn around, I live in this house :o)

Flott hraunið með svona hreinum, nýföllnum snjó :o) Ekki slæmt að geta farið út bakdyramegin og vera komin út í óbyggðir!
Spárnar rætast ekki alltaf og vonandi verður eitthvað eftir á jólunum :o)
Posted 12 months ago. ( permalink )
Pixiepro replies:
Takk Oddur, ég er mjög heppin með "bakgarðinn", það er verndað hraunland. Þegar ég fór út áðan var alveg steinþögn þarna úti í hrauninu... ótrúlega kyrrt og fallegt :o)

Og ég vona að þú hafir rétt fyrir þér með veðurspána :o)

You live in a lava field?!! So you are one of that mystical Icelandic creatures living in stone caves, in snow, aren't you? :-))))
Btw, I'm envious of your snow... we haven't seen any this year yet. Snowless New Year, fie!
Posted 12 months ago. ( permalink )
gawart.blogspot.com replies:
@Angela
Some peoples call this species(creatures) troll

" if pixie search guido with a gun in here hands say no i not know where he is "
MUAHAHAHA
Posted 12 months ago. ( permalink )
Angelapro replies:
Well, I wouldn't call Pixie a troll... The magic world of Iceland is extremely rich and there are also much nicer creatures than trolls ;-)))
Posted 12 months ago. ( permalink )
Pixiepro replies:
Hehe... thanks Angela :D At least I hope I don't look like a troll ;o)

The magic world of Iceland has for example:

- trolls in the mountains
(they've usually ventured out in daylight and turned to stone)
- elves in the stones
(they are good creatures but have been known to lure people into the stones)
- flower fairies
(harmless and beautiful)
- 13 yule lads in the mountains that come to town 13 days before Christmas
(nasty lads with a weird sense of humour en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yule_Lads)
- the parents of the jule lads
(they steal naughty kids and eat them)

and much more... ;o)

Oh, and here is a very good translation on the Icelandic poem about the 13 Yule lads that all Icelandic children know... notendur.centrum.is/sjbokband/joh.html/yulelads00.html :o)

Angelapro replies:
Yes, I read about those nasty lads of Christmas in "101 Reykjavik"!! The Russian translator of this book was very painstaking and he commented many unknown moments of Icelandic reality for Russian readers. I must say, the comments were the same interesting as the book itself! :-))

Pixiepro replies:
LOL yes I do Angela, well actually... the place where I live is built on an old lava field and they tried to destroy as little as possible, building paths instead in between the mounds of lava :o)

Hafnarfjörður is said to have a very large community of what we call elves, and they live in the large stones :o)

I would love to have this snow over Christmas and New Year, unfortunately they predict rain tomorrow :o(

Pixiepro replies:
Takk takk Hafdís :o) Já þeir reyndu að halda hrauninu eins ósnertu og þeir gátu þegar hverfið var byggt... og bjuggu svo til göngustíga innan um hraunbolla og hæðir :o)

Thank you Nada, actually this is the perfect snow for making a snow man! :o) Snow can be very different in texture and some snow is just too dry and loose to make a snow man :o)

This looks so fantastic there! When it is snowing in Kassel,it is melting soon and is really not as deep,as in this picture. This is the right weather for Santa Claus and the fitting Christmas feeling :O)

Oh, this is not concidered very deep here :o) But sadly it is all gone now, the rain came as predicted... but we still keep the Christmas feeling inside... thank you Corinna :o)

That's a great photo, and you live in an interesting place. I see cross-country ski tracks too, so it looks like that path is well utilised/
Posted 12 months ago. ( permalink )
Pixiepro replies:
Thanks John! Not as much snow as at your place :o) About the tracks... I don't know if the were made by cross country skis or by a children's snow sled ;o) I suspect the latter though :D
