Memorial Tree

Memorial Tree
This tree was planted in the 1960s to commemorate when British troops blew up the magazine as they were getting ready to flee an American invading force. The explosion was much worse in one direction (faced by the magazine's door, which was a weak point) than any others, and so it killed or injured many American soldiers while the fleeing British troops, on the opposite side, weren't nearly as badly affected. I believe this was more or less the spot where the magazine had stood.
