The Pacific Central terminal was originally built as the Canadian Northern (CNoR) station between 1917-19. Before the station was even completed CNoR was facing bankruptcy. It was soon nationalized by the federal government, as was the insolvent Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, and was merged into Canadian Government Railways.
