A group portrait of 14 men, 2 armed, 2 postmen
This photograph is in an album inherited from the Pritchard family of Hereford. There is no description of it in the album. I am not sure if any of them are relatives of mine, although the third from the left in the back row could be Walter Pritchard, my great-grandfather. I would dearly like to know what this group were up to, with two rifles in the photo and a couple of postmen in uniform among them. (I am assuming that this was the uniform of the Royal Mail at that period. I haven't seen any other similar uniform, although there is a suggestion that they might be special constables.) Even though I have only watched trailers for the TV series 'Peaky Blinders' about a crime gang, set in the immediate post-WW1 era, I was struck by the similarity of the style of the caps to those above. That is not to say that the bunch above were on the wrong side of the law.
Richard Chamberlain has particularly liked this photo
