I am amazed that anything grows on this land. There is hardly any organic matter evident, as there is the thinnest of topsoil over the chalk. I guess that the chalk must retain goodness from previous crops.

It's easier to find your kit if it's red. Green and where is it in the hay field - yellow and it disappears into the rapeseed crop - blue and you might have driven it into the pond. Red is only a problem when the field at the front is full of poppies.
