This is a sweet little plant with one or two tiny flowers on a long slender stem with long slim leaves. This is the first time I had seen one.

I've never seen one - your presentation is beautiful.

Sarah Raven's 'Wild Flowers' says that it is confined to southern England and south Wales, most frequently in the south-east, on chalky soils. So our patch fits the bill nicely and explains why you haven't seen it up your way, Tricia. Having said that, I hadn't noticed it before, in the six years we've been down here.
If you like wild flowers and haven't seen Sarah Raven's large book, you should try to get a look at a copy. It's major plus for me is that it has a thumbnail photo index, classified by colours. So you can come in with your pink flower photo and quite quickly whiz through the pink & purple section of the thumbnails and find its name and other details. As well as individual photos of each species, there are several double page spreads of flowers in their habitats, between the sections.

Thanks for the tip. That sounds like a wonderful book and I have some unspent tokens.

I use a colour-coded book that I have had since my teenage years. It is so much easier if you can zip straight to the pink section or the white section. I misplaced it recently and searched for a month before finding it hidden behind the shelf support of my bookcase!

It was fairly pricey when I bought it on an Observer/Guardian bookshop offer - £30+ and it is not a field pocketbook, unless you have big pockets and big muscles as well.
Its ISBN no. is 978-1-1088-1394-2 and the publisher is Bloomsbury.

Thanks for all the info. I'll "vet" it next time I'm near a bookshop. I don't have big pockets nor muscles! But I do like books to browse through at home.
