William Mary & Magnus Musson - Newhaven - 30.1.2014

William Mary & Magnus Musson - Newhaven - 30.1.2014
Magnus Musson is a semi-retired pilot boat, there being two more modern boats at the Newhaven Port Authority's disposal. She has been retained as a general work boat. The William Mary appeared to still have some power and, from a distant view, seemed to berth herself once in harbour.
This is not the first time I have caught NN729 needing help getting home - www.ipernity.com/doc/364457/25933561
The trawler in the background is the Sarah Lena.

Smashing picture and commentary.
I wonder if there is a charge levied on the trawler owners if assistance is required?

Generally the Port Authority keeps a tight rein on their finances, so there may well be a charge! The last time WM got towed in (to my knowledge) it was by the lifeboat, but one of the crew had a burnt hand and there was a problem with snagged nets. So this little craft would not have had the same capability as the lifeboat. I think the accident occurred further out into the Channel.

Thanks Phil, this is the kind of snippet that makes the picture even more interesting.

You can find out more about our local lifeboat at www.newhavenlifeboat.co.uk including some video clips taken by the coastguard helicopter as well as on board cameras. The William Mary incident is actually one of the events included at www.youtube.com/watch?v=At_IG810mkA#t=61 There is also the clip of them searching for a teenager who got swept out to sea as one of the storms was building towards the end of 2013 www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjvW7jNUhPE
