This photograph comes from a collection of postcard-style prints, collected by W.Beckerlegge and acquired by my father. There are two main sources of these commercial photos, produced around the 1923 grouping, W.H.Whitworth (WHW) and the Locomotive Publishing Company (LPC). The photographers have not been credited on the prints, so cannot be recorded here.

This is also a member of the 8 ft single G class, built in 1894 (according to Wikipedia, at least). Wikipedia suggests they were used up until 1916.

A lot of the information that wasn't on the back of the prints, came from www.lner.info . I didn't research any of the pre-grouping companies, although several helpful enthusiasts, from smaller constituent railway company groups on Flickr, did add considerably to their chosen lines' images. Some of the info. did come across but, regrettably in my rush to move over, info. that was just in the 'comments' boxes did get lost.
No.1 was already a preserved loco by the grouping, so it and its companions didn't appear in the LNER Encyclopedia.
I am always grateful for additional information, as long as it is accurate.
