George Allen & Unwin

George Allen & Unwin

Well, they say a thing of beauty is a joy for ever, so take a look at this... the original trade mark of the publishers George Allen & Unwin Ltd.

The publishing house of George Allen and Sons was established in London in 1871. In 1914, after Sir Stanley Unwin bought a controlling interest, it became George Allen and Unwin, and was based at Ruskin House, 40 Museum Street, London WC1 (geotagged). In 1986 the company was amalgamated with Bell & Hyman, then sold to HarperCollins in 1990. There followed a management buy-out and today, it’s an independent book publisher based in Australia.

This trade mark is taken from my 1926 edition of The Craft of the Poet by FW Felkin MA.
