If, as my wife did, any tourist crossed the yellow line which was a respectful distance from the mausoleum, this guard blew his whistle and signalled them to get back.

Originally built by Emperor Ly Thai Tong between 1028 and 1054 this is a replica which was constructed to replace the original pagoda which had been destroyed in an act of pointless vandalism by the French before they left in 1954.
