King Street, Charleston

King Street, Charleston
Please Press Z for large view on black:))) In the news for the past few days because of the senseless shootings at the A.M.E. Church, the people of Charleston will pull together and rise above this tragedy as they have following others challenges such as diseases (especialy malaria), wars (Revolutionary and Civil), Reconstruction, earthquake, fire, and hurricanes come to mind. Charleston was our home for several years and we visit whenever possible.

Founded in 1670 as Charles Town in honor of King Charles II of England, just 10 years after he was restored to the throne following Oliver Cromwell’s Protectorate. Charleston adopted its present name in 1783. Also known as ‘The Holy City’ because of its large number of churches. The first shots of the Civil War were fired in Charleston.

Photographed from the third level of a building across the street, this is the main shopping street in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, Ben Silver is a 'high end' men's haberdashery offering primarily US and UK made clothing .

John Linton, Lebojo, Christine Boes-Schiller, Christina Sonnenschein and 9 other people have particularly liked this photo

An unusual angle, Michael; and a very topical location, the city being in the news (infamously) at the moment.

Thanks David! Photo taken from the third level of a building diagonally across the street, giving the unusual angle. Yes, very much in the news these past few days but the people of Charleston have overcome many difficulties over the years, they are resilient! Best regards, Michael

Thanks Zsuzsa, I took this photo from the third level of a building diagonally across the street, giving the unusual angle, which I liked and decided to keep rather than 'straightening' the image :))) Best wishes, Michael

Bev, the photo taken from the third level of a building diagonal from the shops across the street resulted in the 'angle'. A little experimenting on my part when processing the image, I'm so pleased you liked the outcome!! Warm regards, Michael
