There seems to be almost a kind of Cubist aesthetic, warmed by pure sweeping line and natural tones. Water, stone, flesh. Brilliant; wish I could afford it!
well, he is very busy with "volumes" in his paintings (which takes me some years to understand what he means by), but also doesn't want to let realism and traditional drawing techniques go, believing that this is the foundation of painting (against coloring or scamming in the name of art as he calls it). But he also says that painting is another art than photography.
He lives in Greece, so I scarcely see him, but it's fun to see him painting; the work is like a transformation movie, everyday things are slowly somewhere else on the canvas, or some of them jumping within minutes as far as possible, until he says a "yes!" which I cannot place with the procedure.
But anyway, his works are usually sold in advance and he takes veeeeery long times to say this "yes!"
I think this work is sold some/many years ago, but I got a grip of the photo...
And about affording them, there are 2 categories: the haves and the have-nots. Both enjoy his paintings, but the second category must come with a very good (emotional) story :-DDD
What do they say? "The foundation of art is in drawing." And the impressionist techniques used are used with restraint, and the human warmth is not lost.
