I had no idea "leather britches" were dried beans, LOL!
She said they were called that because that's what the dried green bean felt and tasted like if you tried to eat them dry. Here she is giving out samples of hominy.
There also was a girl next to the stand, stringing the beans to dry. They looked like pretty necklaces!
The guy in the background was explaining how to graft apple trees.
Edit: We met Norma again a year later, while she was shelling beans on the porch of the farm house.
