Real estate lingo: "A boater`s dream"

This sign was posted the day after we had signed the contract to purchase the condo - and with this discovery the "boater`s dream" had turned into a "boater`s nightmare"!

When we received the financial statement of the condo association we noticed that there were no reserves at all to pay for such repairs, and I seriously doubt that a simple repair would put this boat lift back into business. On the way back we noticed the holes in the tenniscourt, where they had put safety cones so people would not get hurt and sue them.

We took two nights to sleep it over and then we cancelled the sales contract just in time to get our deposit back. That was the end of "a boater`s dream". I had learned to translate yet another real estate phrase: I would have to *dream* of ever being able to get my boat in and out of the harbour!

We went on looking for our perfect paradise and came across a fairly new subdivision around a small lake. There were all but one condos for sale in one of the houses and I wondered why. The listing sounded great: "Convenience is the word! Walking distance to shopping and restaurants" ...
