Dead Trees and Wildflowers
The dead trees (spruces and firs), typical for Clingmans Dome, were killed by Balsam Woolly Adelgids, a non native bug that was introduced to the area from Europe around 1900 and killed 95% of the trees on Clingmans Dome.
