Celt & Saxon ~ The Drain Pipe Puppies

Celt & Saxon ~ The Drain Pipe Puppies
Last Thursday sometime between 9.30am and Noon some scum of a person dumped two little puppies in our drainage ditch.(we live in the middle of nowhere and our road is a track) First I knew of it was when I went up to check for the Mail and a little head popped out of the metal large bore pipe under our Driveway . This was followed by much more yapping and a second pup appearing.

I had Nerys with me so I had to have her stay inside the gates and go and see what was going on.

Needless to say both pups disappeared back up the pipe !

It took much tempting over 36 hours to get them out. We managed to get them safe and carry them down to our garage and check them over. They were starving but fine . We could not take them inside because it would be totally wrong to expose a new Nerys to any possible harmful bugs .

However.. I set up the very big dog crate in the garage and I have made a snug warm den and food and water and they are checked many times.

You can guess ... no Shelter wants to help at all.. in fact no-one does.

SO ...

It seems that having just got Nerys we have two new adopted Boys ...Celt and Saxon !

They look totally different.. but its probable they are still from the same litter. My guess is they are 8-10 weeks old and so friendly and wanting to be loved. They have to be Hounds. Saxon is the bigger pale chunky one and Celt is the smaller.

We take Nerys to to Vet on Thursday for her first check over and the puppies go on Friday for their check over and first round of injections.

They will then be coming into the house and have the crate den set up for them and the fun begins

Its a really big thing to take on with just having got Nerys.. and she needs attention.. but we will manage and all will be loved always.

I am a little overwhelmed but it will all work out I am sure.

I may not be as prompt answering and commenting for a little while and this will be a juggling act... but All Will Be Well !

Patrick Brandy, Günter Klaus, Rainer Blankermann, and 79 other people have particularly liked this photo

Oh Pam, you are amazing in so many ways. Enjoy this ride! And of course dogs are pack animals, so the more the merrier. I bet Nerys will understand what this all means - that you are a saint and to be trusted completely.

Sadly we see a lot of this here. Animals are not treated well and many domestic animals are just dumped to die.

They look so adorable. Sometimes human beings baffle me. There are people who dump animals to die and there are people like you. Those puppies got left in exactly the right place. They will have a good loving home and will bring happiness and joy. A similar thing happened to a friend of mine years ago. She was looking out the window and saw a car draw up outside. The door opened and a brown paper bag was thrown onto the pavement. The car drove off. When she investigated she found a puppy inside the bag. One who couldn't have been dumped in a better place. Right outside a loving home, just like your two. I love the names you have chosen.

The timing is rather ahead of my plans.... but the Universe decided differently !

The names have long been in my head. Neither would have worked for Nerys.. but it seems two little souls were lined up for those names.

Those two little fellows look fine all things considered, Maybe they were a Christmas present that went wrong. They don't look ill-treated or starved. I guess the people who dumped them knew just where to go. There is a bit of Labrador and Jack Russel about them, and they look so trusting.
I know they will have a happy home with you, Pam. You have been well rewarded for all your kindness.

Definitely no JRT in them (you rarely see them in this area).. Lab for sure and I think Hound as opposed to Cattle dog. Different areas have different mixes. Here.. the majority are Pitbull X something.. but I am not seeing that in either. I am still going for Lab x Hound !

The point is.. animals are dumped to die... not have happy endings. here too spay and neuter is so against the 'macho" image. There is animals cruelty on a daily basis the likes of which the UK hasnt seen for many many years.

Yes.. there is kindness too . Sadly too the young kids are often treated badly also.

Well, talk about melting your heart looks! I'd like to think that Lucas & Flicka had a hand (paw) in guiding these angles to you Pam. Their names are perfect. When Nerys has adjusted I am sure she will be a big sister to these little ones. Bless you for taking them on, ( I know you'd never leave an animal unloved). When you have had them checked out and such give all three big hugs and strokes from me. xxx :)

Pam, you're an angel. And you're certainly their angel. They're beautiful, and it is so good of you to step up and do this. One thing we learned locally is that no shelter will take a dog unless it belongs to you. ! One can't find a stray and try to help it by turning it over to a no-kill shelter. That's the shocker anyone who tries to do a simple good deed is in for.

Again, good for you, Pam, and good for these little ones.
Pam J club has replied to Smiley Derleth club
Thankyou Smiley..

The being an Angel is just an ugly rumour I am trying to squash !! You are right ... there is no help...I was told by the three area's we are supposed to partly come under.. "Tough .. get on with it"

I understand full Shelters.. but this is not the way to discourage... you have to educate. Spay and Neuter is just not preached and done here .
Diane Putnam club has replied to Smiley Derleth club
Whaaat? That policy makes no sense at all, Smiley! As backward and stupidly macho as my area of my state is, there are two no-kill shelters in town and it's very rare for dogs to be dumped. I never see stray dogs, in fact. Cats are a different story, but at least they are more able to fend for themselves. Feral ones are trapped/neutered/released. Way out in the boondocks, things aren't as...nice.
6 years ago. Edited 6 years ago.
Smiley Derleth club has replied to Diane Putnam club
It sounds like each area has its own good points and bad. I applaud the ones in your area taking stray dogs. When I found an abandoned kitten on my back step one day 3 years back, there was a cat rescue society, which has been around for a while, that welcomed the baby. I don't know if they neutered or spayed, but their plan was not to release, but to get her, or him, to a foster owner they had waiting.

We have a shelter that is dropping off cats in our area - a shelter! Because we live in the country they just become coyote bait. The neighbors are trying to catch them at it and report them.
Pam J club has replied to RHH
Just a thought ... forget waiting for evidence (as long as you KNOW unequivocally it IS happening)
Go to the papers.. that becomes the duty of the accused to show they are not doing it. Guilty unless they prove otherwise. It isnt the best way.. but it IS a way.

It took me 6 years to get a small puppy mill shut down near here. In the end I had to use that tactic but.. I did finally manage to scupper the people.
