" Come Home to a REAL FIRE ! "

This was the British Coal Board's catch phrase in the mid 1970's ! It was on alot of ads... till they realised it wasn't perhaps as apt as they thought !

My first thought was a ring of fire ... lots of heat emerging from this image! Not as apt .... indeed, I'd hate to come home to a "real fire" necessitating a call to the fire department. \

(The British Coal Board probably felt the catch phrase was a good idea at the time!)

Yes, that is a catch phrase not too well thought out:)

Up until a few years ago I lived in a house heated only by coal fires. They were lovely, but so much work... plodding out to the coal shed in the dark and the rain at the end of a long day and staggering back with a heavy bucket of coal... But there's something to be said for sitting with your feet in a warm fireplace making toast in the flames.
