Óshlíðargöng

This picture is taken in Óshlíðargöng, a new tunnel that is being build between Hnífsdalur and Bolungarvík, small towns close to Ísafjörður. I sometimes have to go and do some surveys, then I send the results to some specialists that check if the tunnels are going in the right direction :o)

I wish they would build some tunnels on some of our highways here. A few weeks ago, almost every highway through the mountains was closed because of slides and avalanches. We've had a lot of snow this winter!

Oddur Jonssonpro replies:
Thanks John. This tunnel is being built exactly because of this, slides and avalanches on the dangerous road that people have to travel now. We had a terrible winter in 1995 but since then we haven't had that much snow :o)

Mér finnst alltaf göng vera svo ógnvekjandi, havað þá heldur að vera að vinna þar inni, frábær byrta hér Oddur, þú tekur þig bara vel út þarna :-)

Oddur Jonssonpro replies:
Takk Ester. Bara fínt að vinna í þessum göngum annað slagið, vel upplýst og nokkuð hreint :o)

It is so great to have an opportunity to see you at work :) I understand reasons for building that tunnel, but the road between Isafjordur and Bolungarvik is so picturesque! Snowy mountains with clear water at the bottom are just breath-taking. You are lucky to live in such a magic place! Even though winter time can be so demanding...

Oddur Jonssonpro replies:
Thank you Viola. The road between Isafjordur and Bolungarvik can be very dangerous because of falling rocks and avalanches, but on a calm day it is very beautiful :o)

... og verð aftur í næstu viku. Svo vantar mig smá lottóvinning til að geta keypt nýja tölvu fyrir myndirnar mínar og vinnsluna :o)

Ótrúlea cool mynd og staður! Ég ætti erfitt með að vera á svona stað samt eftir allar myndirnar sem maður hefur horft á úr göngum LOL...

Oddur Jonssonpro replies:
Takk Ragga.

Oddur Jonssonpro replies:
Takk Begga. Þessi göng eru mjög fín, góð vinnulýsing og nánast ekkert vatn að leka úr loftinu þannig að það er ekkert mjög mikil drulla þarna. Og talsvert hlýrra en úti :o)

You really have a interesting job.
But please can you send me your head light ? Could use that for driving my bike in the dark ..LOL;D

Oddur Jonssonpro replies:
Thank you Corinna. Sometimes my job can be very interesting and simply great :o)
If I send you the head light, the battery has to come too, you can see it on my back, strapped with a thick leather belt. I'm sure you would look good on your bike with this light and even the helmet too :o)

Great, because I never am wearing a helmet on the bike..aham..
If I can get yours,my family could calm down a bit.And my friends and colleges...
They always ask,why I don´t wear a good helmet?
Thank you Oddur :O)

Virkilega skemmtileg mynd Oddur :) Ég sé að þú ert með vasaljós og svo ertu ansi vel upplýstur. Eitthvað trix þarna í gangi?
Posted 11 months ago. ( permalink )
Oddur Jonssonpro replies:
Takk Gunnsteinn. Ekkert trix í gangi, bara ennisljós fyrir utan vinnulýsinguna í göngunum :o)

What are the tunnels going to be used for?
Posted 11 months ago. ( permalink )
Oddur Jonssonpro replies:
The tunnel will be the road to Bolungarvik. It goes under those mountains in the center of this picture. The current road is under a very steep hill where there are often avalanches and rock slides :o)
