They are the 'pedigree' names of the cattle registered with the 'Devon Cattle Breeders' Association'... 'Middle Campscott' is my herd prefix and she is the third cow in the 'Broadbeam' family that I have bred and registered. 'Burwood' is the herd prefix of the breeder of the bull and he is the second one in the 'Barrister family that he has registered. I sold the young bull I had bred, to avoid in-breeding, and bought Burwood Barrister 2nd in as a two year old just about two years ago. His first calves arrived this year... --- Well... You did ask...

The Saler cattle from the Auvergne are similar to the Devons and are also reputed to be a very ancient breed.

There is a useful description of the breed on
