Mantelssaal

Der Mantelssaal geht auf die Initiative des Stadtbibliothekars und Hanseforschers Friedrich Wilhelm Mantels zurück. Er erreichte 1877, dass den mittelalterlichen Räumen des ehemaligen Franziskanerklosters ein Neubau hinzugefügt wurde. Der neogotische Baustil schließt an die Vorbilder des Mittelalters an.

Mit der umfangreichen Renovierung von 1992 - 1994 ist es gelungen, moderne Elemente mit der historischen Bausubstanz geschickt und wirkungsvoll zu verbinden. In der Regalanlage stehen heute 9.000 Bände des Altbestandes.

Super shot of these venerable tomes. I appreciate the notes but unfortunately they say a lot but explain very little. Why are these bibles special?

Diese Bibeln sind von 1642. Das Alter macht sie besonders.

Ja das Alter macht's, genau. Aber meinst du das ist die Jahreszahl? Ich glaub ne Ordnungsnummer. Auf den engl. Nachschlagewerken von WhatsApp steht 98. Da würde das jhd fehlen.

Thank you, Karin! All very interesting. The writing style, other than the gothic, does remind me of similar styles in Britain from the late 17th and early 18th century, but I could be wrong. If earlier (1642) then the need for bibles would have been very great in The Thirty Years War!
