I've always wondered what the purpose of those jars are.

Also never noticed these two cans have tertiary windings until now either.

Those are definitely some old transformers alright. I wonder when they were originally made? The white paint makes me think they were rebuilt at one point. Maybe those name plates could give us clues.

In original view I can make out "General Electric" on the nameplates. Those jars are interesting.

Maybe the jars contain a type of desiccant that changes color when needs changing. They may also be a type of venting that prevents moisture from entering the can. BTW, So Cal Edison has a Marion sub in OC, a 66-12kV
