Sioux Falls, SD municipal

Sioux Falls, SD municipal
Here's the muni's 'Elm' sub. Not much to look at; it's practically an unit sub given how compact it is. There are about 10 13.8kV circuits leaving this sub.

That's probably even bigger than the enormous 115kV/13.8kV substation that serves the entire city of Danbury, Connecticut! How big is Sioux Falls?

Sioux Falls is about 160,000 people, but the municipal has only about 3000 residential customers. There are some HUGE loads on the muni system - the arena and airport complexes.

Wow. Sioux Falls has more people in it than any city in Connecticut! Even Bridgeport, the most populated city, has less than 150,000 people in it.

Danbury has about 80,000 and is served off of a 115kV/13.8kV sub from CL&P.

This seems a real trend with munis for some reason- unit type transformer and switchgear inside a building. I suppose it's much nicer to work on.
