Volcano Island, Taal Volcano, Tagaytay

Volcano Island, Taal Volcano, Tagaytay
Taal Volcano is a complex volcano located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Historical eruptions are concentrated on Volcano Island, an island near the middle of Lake Taal. The lake partially fills Taal Caldera, which was formed by powerful prehistoric eruptions between 140,000 to 5,380 BP.

Viewed from Tagaytay Ridge, Taal Volcano and Lake presents one of the most picturesque and attractive views in the Philippines. It is located about 50 km (31 miles) south of the capital, Manila. [source: Wikipedia - Taal Volcano]

We left at 8:30 am by car from the hotel. A comfortable 1hr45min drive and we were at Tagaytay.

After a brief stop at the resort, where we changed into clothes "good to get dirty in", we were off by boat to the Volcano Island. A brief 20-25 minutes boat ride later, we were at the Island. A 40-45 min uncomfortable horse ride later, we were at the top of the crater looking at this beautiful sight.

To fully understand the sight, there is a large lake (Taal Caldera) in which there are a couple of volcano islands. This is the bigger of the volcano islands and when you stand at the rim of the crater, you can see another lake inside. So, a lake inside a volcano inside a lake.
