But bddhism is a syncretic religion which accepts the other ones...I like that, bt I don't like the principle to give up pleasure and desire to escape from the reincarnation circle/
Thats right, because they have no "God" in the sense of the big monotheistic religions and that makes them much more tolerant. Most of all religions, especially the christian, tell us, that they "own" the one and only truth....so what must be the result? Intolerance and conflicts. I was intensively enganges in the katholic church for many years, so I know it from inside. But now I'm happy to be convinced, that its the same kind of superstition (as already Einstein told us) as if a rainmaker tries to conjure rain..........
Berny, u're right, but Judaïsm and Islam also claim they got the one and only truth (I am jewish, in a secular point of view), even hinduism says the same.
The difference between those religions is that Christianism (especially catholism and protestantism compared the orthodoxy) and Islam are inclusive : they are intensely and offensively proselyth when Judaism and Hinduism are inclusive : they don't convert or impose a lot of difficulties to the conversion (for hinduism, u are born hinduist, u can't become hinduist).
Anyway all of those religious institutions (mosk, temple, synagog, church) and most of their adepts are in a way guilty of one of the main sins according their holy books : pride. If god exists, god is the only one to know the absolute truth.
Concerning Buddhism, in a way it's more a philosophy for western poeple, but when u go to asia, u understand it s also a religion (for exemple, in Korea, they were struggles between buddhists and confucianists in the past, and nowadays between christians and buddhists.
One's again, what disturbs me in the buddhism is the fact to reject desire to be happy. I can't support this idea, but maybe I am not wise enough
