Basile Color High-Key

Basile Color High-Key
Here, I've tried to create my first color high key. This picture was taken for the portrait assignment of the "Happy Shooting" workshop but I decided not to hand it out for discussion because the original was quite dull and low on contrast. I pretty much liked the composition though so I tried my best to use the picture for this little exercise. In addition to several level/contrast adjustments, I sharpened hair line and eyes and also improved the eye reflections.

I've added an English description which is even more detailed than the German one ;-)

Hi Mickey. I am trying to experiment with this high key as well these days... This picture I think is good, just have to think about not loosing details anywhere... Great to have the details in english - thanks...

Yes, that's a problem ... at one step, I have used an overlay layer (with a B/W negative of that image) to reduce the contrast of the face and therefore save some details. Unfortunately, I only shot JPEG images at that day (to save space on my memory card). I would recommend to make use of the RAW format in case you want to play with high- or low key images. It will give you more flexibility later on because you are not limited to the 8 bit channel depth.
