LEONARD COHEN - Stories of the Street

From side 2 of his debut album, 1967

Lyrics here

'Songs of Leonard Cohen' cover photo outtake, 1967

This was the track that first made me think I might get to like this Cohen guy.

A line from the final song on the album clinched the deal and proved to me that Cohen, despite his dour reputation, has a sense of humor.

"An Eskimo showed me a movie
He'd recently taken of you
The poor man could hardly stop shivering
His lips and his fingers were blue"

Good song -- great song. You're right about the sense of humor.

In my search for more info about this particular Cohen song, I found an outstanding overview of his work that I first read when it appeared in the Chicago Reader in 1992 or so. I'd forgotten how good that paper could be.
