ROLLERSKATE SKINNY - Speed to My Side

1996

The '90s seemed to be about sifting through random bands trying to find something new and interesting to listen to. Most of this has been forgotten. I'd forgotten about Rollerskate Skinny, and they were only rescued from permanent oblivion (as far as my point of view is concerned) through internet happenstance.

In a related development, I've been driving myself crazy trying to think of the name of a band I kind of liked in the early '90s ... can't think of any song titles even, just a few snatches of lyrics and that, I think, their name ended in a question mark (it wasn't Therapy?).

I remember checking out a band for the sole reason that Thomas Pynchon had been moved to write their liner notes. Lousy band. Never took any more music tips from Thomas Pynchon.

I didn't know this before. This is sublime stuff.

That's a pretty apt description. This track reminds me somewhat of The Flaming Lips, who had a few sublime moments of their own. I can't vouch for any other Rollerskate Skinny tracks, though.

The phrase "rollerskate skinny," by the way, is from "Catcher in the Rye."
