A long segment of Route 66 where it nears the Nevada border has been “closed for repairs” for years. Now that we have the new National Monument, this relaxed and relaxing old desert road may open again all the way through from Kelbaker Road to the tiny but special town of Goffs. Yahoo!

Thanks for driving part of the Mother Road through the Mojave Desert with me.

Let's hope so. I hate the fact that there are so many roads that are closed off to public use.

There seems to be some confusion about that stretch of 66. I drove Fenner to Goff in 2011, but the old 66 may be closed east of Goff.
