Fifty years!

Fifty years!
I'm putting up this public domain photo to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that famous Ed Sullivan TV show, introducing the Beatles to America.

(Those haircuts were so strange! )

My oldest daughter, a young teen, really got into the Beatles. I remember driving her and her friends across the Bay Bridge to the Cow Palace to see them live. The cars around us were also filled with teenage girls and rather sheepish looking parents. The kids were hyped, cheering and waving.

The Cow Palace is an immense concrete structure with very thick walls. The kids disappeared inside and I settled down with the other parents for a long wait. Shortly we began looking at each other in amazement. Way out in the parking lot we could hear the screaming distinctly, right through all that concrete and the massive steel doors.

Chatting with a few of those patiently waiting parents, I found out that they, like me, had been very demonstrative fans of the young Frank Sinatra twenty years before. We understood.

Happy days.....I well remember the time - it hit the news over here too. (And how I loved Paul McCartney!)

I am part of the very small minority of people that does not care for the Beatles. I just don't get it. I always felt this is the music my peers should have been rebelling against, not adopting as our own.
