Arcata Marsh

Arcata Marsh
This is a splendid place where people walk and run, birds sing, frogs call, and raccoons scurry by. It is also part of the sewer system of the town of Arcata.

The basic function of manmade Arcata Marsh is to consume the last nutrients out of the already-treated water released from the sewage plant. When the water reaches the natural mudflats beyond, it is so clean it makes no serious impact on the delicate mud ecosystem.

I've been there, it is gorgeous just as you say. And, it creates a slight awkward sense to know it's sewage.
