Pebble Etiquette

Pebble Etiquette
Some beaches have lovely pebbles. (There were lovely seashells to see, too, when I was young, but most shells are immediately picked up these days.)

Our parents expected us to follow the pebble rules: Collect and play with your sea stones all day, but choose only two to become your Pocket Pebbles. Do not leave your collections arrayed on rocks or driftwood; throw them back into the sea to be further polished and washed in again for another child to find.

A very nice and colorful collection. Good collecting advise, too!

They are lovely, and hopefully many like this will remain for our successors

A very attractive set of pebbles and the 'rules' make excellent sense.

I love the pebble rules. I've collected lots of rocks over the years, but I've come to regret having moved so much material around. (If modern civilization concludes any time soon, the area around my building will be very puzzling to the next civilization's geologists.) I think I'll adopt the lesson your parents taught.

Good advice indeed. Sea pebbles look best wet with sea water and glistening in the sun.
