Ancient rock alignment

Ancient rock alignment
There are a number of ancient man-made rock alignments in the Death Valley-Panamint Valley area. They may be very, very old. This is the one near Furnace Creek. It obviously has fallen victim to the park restoration program, and is now a perfect line of rocks with nothing (desert varnish, ways rocks were originally stacked, etc.) to show its age or meaning.

All parks with visible history have a dilemma: should they allow their fragile artifacts to be visited to death or should they "restore" the life out of them?

John McKay, Peter Van Der Houwen, Tim Hanko, Philippe Girault have particularly liked this photo
