Wild Burros in Death Valley

Wild Burros in Death Valley
When they left the desert, the old single-blanket-jackass prospectors turned their burros loose. These are the descendents, fascinating animals though they are very hard on the delicate ecosystem.

The young burro in the rear moved fast when she saw me, but stopped when she got her head, and only her head, behind a wisp of creosote bush.

Kind of like playing peek-a-boo with a toddler. I can't see you, so you can't see me!

Although I've been to DV several times, I've yet to spot one of these escapees. the best I've managed is to come across their tracks.
