Emotions, frozen in Time.

Emotions, frozen in Time.
These three pictures of " statue faces " were taken over several years, and in three different places. The differing emotions shown in the three faces appealed to me - weary resignation / bad temper / stubborn self-righteousness -

a. Left : A weary immigrant. In August 1711 87 Amish Mennonites [ Anabaptists ] arrived in Kampen, the Netherlands, to escape from two centuries of religious persecution in their native Switzerland.

b. Centre : The Angry Baby / Sinnatagen in the Vigeland Park, Oslo, Norway. The sculptor, Gustav Vigeland ( 1869 – 1943) was Norwegian noted for the power of his creative imagination and his productivity. He is most associated with the Vigeland Sculpture Arrangement ( Vigelandsanlegget ), where my picture was taken, and was also the designer of the Nobel Peace Prize medal.

c. Right : Paul Kruger, at the entrance to the National Park bearing his name, South Africa. Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger ( 1825 – 1904 ), better known as Paul, and affectionately known as Uncle Paul ( Afrikaans : " Oom Paul " ) was State President of the South African Republic (Transvaal). He gained international renown as the face of Boer resistance against the British during the South African or Second Boer War (1899–1902 ).
