05.14.06 02 For Whom the Bell Tolls
Partly enclosed by 16th-century walls, Peniche is a small pictoresque Portuguese town almost entirely dependent on the sea. One of the most important fishing ports in the country. It stands on a small peninsula forming two bays. The town most famous building, is an imposing 16th century fortress that once served as a political prison during the Fascist Salazar regime. The fortress is now a municipal
museum and it records this era. This is a detail shot within the fortress walls.

From the town you can view the uninhabited archipelago of the Berlengas islands, an important nature reserve which can be reached by boat when the sea is calm. Next time we will spend the day at Berlengas.

Thanks to Hemingway for the title :)
