Beautiful pictures but alas I cannot tell. I remember George Eastman (later to become Kodak) invented what we know as roll film in the late 1800s, but other than that you have me beat :)
Oh yes I think they were except for most of those of motor vehicles. Those look like they are more the proportions of 35mm which came in during the early 1900's.
In Europe the "polished" ones I would guess as being Kodak and the "grainy ones" as Ilford ... just like todays film. But there were probably other makes that I don't know about and it is only my best guess.
I'm happy to be corrected if anyone knows better though :)
