There are many sand pits around Sulejówek. Some are deep, some are shallow, all are dry with trees struggling to survive at their borders. Some of them are one hundred years old, remembering times when sand and clay (from numerous clay pits) were used to rebuild Warsaw and nearby towns after WWI.

Armenian houses in Zamość.
Two of them shelter the Zamość museum, with intriguing displays such as a scale model of the 16th-century town and a letter to Jan Zamoyski from his architect, Bernardo Morando, with a hand-drawn plan of the square and names of the first occupants of each building.

Most beautiful scouts of Sulejówek :)
- after-duty group shot -
obviously their official photographer was to my right
and used a smartphone ;)
I was lucky to catch them ducking for better frontal view ;)
So it was (definitely) The Decisive Moment :)

Once again my Friday fence is rather gloomy. Not without a reason this time.
Today morning the water container in my boiler room unexpectedly broke flooding my basement.
I managed to cut water supply and called maintenance. Now they are working on it...
installing a new one. But it's a disaster. Especially cleaning it all up after they are gone.

Every year, on September 15, people of Sulejówek and Miłosna commemorate the anniversary of the pacification of Cechówka (part of Sulejówek-Miłosna now) that happened in September 1939, when German troops were approaching Warsaw from the east.
One notable German Wermacht commander was killed in Cechówka. Retaliation was swift and cruel. The village was destroyed and people burnt alive in their houses. 58 residents of Cechówka and many refugees seeking shelter (their names are mostly unknown) have been buried at the nearby cemetery.
Now 80 years after the fact, various reenactment groups came to Sulejówek to show and explain what happened then. It was a good educational event for kids (and their parents, too).
But this old man... He could be a toddler then... I wonder what his recollection of that cruel time is. He stood there for several minutes looking at the actors, lost in his thoughts. Then he moved on, he didn't stay...
