Parties on Fair Isle taste of ancient times. They taste of old country house, of burning logs, of people happy to be together. I took this photo at the Puffinn House: born long ago as a storehouse for smoked halibut, nowadays it's a hostel for the volunteers who come in summer to help crofters. Rønies Voe

[Photo by Carrie Gunn] Kayaking with Carrie in the waters of Rønies Voe, a fjord on the Mainland's west coast. Angus and Yolanda, our precious guides (www.seakayakadventures.co.uk), drove us among the high cliffs, kayaking into caves and wonderful tunnels digged in the rock by North Sea's violent waves.
