When will this be published? I gather that your grandfather Friedrich wrote extensively, such as notes or diaries; kind of a Swabian Victor Klemperer, eh?

Sorry. I only just found your comment now. At the moment his daughter Elsemarie positions herself crosswise.

Matthäus, we certainly like to hear about the history of your grandfather Fridrich Felder.

Please allow me to express my condolences for the loss of your aunt, Elsemarie Hofmann (née Felder).

I don't know if she ever visited the U.S.A.; Of course her daughter Annette did, in the early Seventies. (I think she was required to make a lengthy visit to an English-speaking country as a condition to being certified to teach English in school.)

There is an old letter from Elsemarie to George Felder, the hardware merchant in Detroit, from 1947, in which she stated that she was an apprentice "hand weaver" (a handi-craft, weaving cloth on a loom). She also states in this letter that she liked to go dancing with her friends. But, she complained that "...they nearly exclusively play American dance music; that's a pity, for Jazz actually does not tune to Germany."
