Blue Icicles

Blue Icicles
To have icicles formed on an eave it takes some heat to melt the snow in a very cold day -- as the water falling off the roof, it would be quickly frozen to form a growing spike pointing downward. The recent spell of very sunny days, plus the temperature in the range of -5 to -25 Celsius, has produced tons, literally, of icicles on many buildings in Montreal.

This picture is a crop of a much larger one of a church. The blue colour is the product of an winter early evening's lighting, mainly because of the fact that there are so much ice particles in the air.
