impressions of the abandoned railway facilities in Schmiedefeld a. Rennsteig/Thuringia. The same thing everywhere in this highly touristic region of Germany. Can we afford losing these attractions and the effort it once meant to get railway through these mountains?

Good collage. You get the same sight when travelling through Mecklenburg Vorpommern by train. It is really depressing: whole areas seem to depopulate in East Germany because esp. the young people move away in search of a work and a better future...

spot on! I observed the same sad phenomenon in Thuringia. Almost only mature people in the streets making their stand and stance while youngsters are leaving the area. This can't be anything desirable at the long run and economy will pay the price for its blindness.
