The trickiest categories for photographers at the annual Las Vegas Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend conference are the Best Group and Best Duo performances: for the most part, the groups take advantage of the broad, inviting stage at the Orleans showroom, and it's hard to get compelling images of more than one or two of the performers at any one moment.

Portland's Swing Time is a happy exception in their Two Ladies number, a funny jazz-age dalliance about the joys of unconventional lifestyles. I don't know much about Swing Time; the man in the middle is Russell Bruner, a delightful dancer and graceful clown who was crowned for Best Boylesque in last year's competition, and I don't know the other two dancers. (Addendum: Lili von Schtupp, who hosts L.A.'s fantastic Monday Night Tease, among other projects, identifies the dancers! Pink Lady is wrapped around Russell to the front, and Edie en Garde is perched on his shoulders - thanks, Lili.)

Russell also picks up a second trophy this year in the Best Duo category, but my pictures from that performance aren't what I wish they were. The Swing Timers undress, dress again, and undress once more, keeping a bright charm burning throughout their number: for an act that is introduced as an exploration of polyamory, in fact it's all vintage winks and nudges, with a sly shocked "Look Ma, no rules!" feel.

What a terrific shot
