Fragment of a Kylix Attributed to the Kiss Painter in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, February 2008

Fragment of a Kylix Attributed to the Kiss Painter in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, February 2008
Fragment of a Terracotta Kylix (drinking cup)
Greek, Attic, red-figure, ca. 510-500 BC
Attributed to the Kiss Painter

Accession # 07.286.50

An intimate moment is captured here with remarkably acute observation as well as considerable artistic attention to the juxtaposition of nude and clothed forms and the deployment of drapery. The tondo was evidently cut down in antiquity; the hole and scratches in the youth's thigh indicate the center point that was used to mark the reduced circle.
